Codex and Work retain caches indefinitely for signed-in users

At 09:10 Beijing time on October 21, 2026, OpenAI’s Tibo announced indefinite cache retention for signed-in Codex and Work users as Day 16 of the 28-day pledge. He said returning to an old conversation, even hours later, is guaranteed to hit the cache without a cache penalty for the gap. This is separate from the new 12-hour API prompt-caching option.
