OpenAI fixes mismatched usage limits on about 40,000 accounts and will credit affected users

Tibo Sottiaux of OpenAI said on October 21, 2026 (Beijing time) that about 40,000 accounts had usage limits applied that did not match their selected plan, which explains reports of usage draining too fast over the weekend. The issue is corrected, and OpenAI is reaching out to each affected user and adding credits to their accounts.
