OpenAI's Agents API adds auto-review, background compaction and a sense of time

Announcement time
Review updated

OpenAI Developers shared a list of this week's updates from Steven Coffey on the Agents API team. Auto-review works like it does in Codex: it checks a command for risky behavior before running it. Compaction, which shrinks a long session's history into a shorter summary, can now run in the background so it doesn't hold the session up. Time awareness, still experimental, lets the model sense how much time has passed, so it handles requests like "spend at most 10 minutes on CI fixes" better. You can also change a session's tools at any point, and system prompts are now cached across all sessions to save money and time. The background compaction and time awareness settings are already in the official Python SDK.
