Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5

Model released
Review updated

Anthropic released Claude Haiku 5.5 on Oct 7, 2026, a fast, low-cost model for high-volume work with a 1M-token context window and effort control. Prompts up to 100K tokens cost $0.10 input and $0.50 output per million tokens. It is available now in the Claude API, on AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry, and on every Claude.ai plan.

Details

The small model in the Claude 5.5 family, built for high-volume, latency-sensitive work such as classification, summaries, routing, subagents and browser or computer use. It is the first Haiku with effort control, and adaptive thinking is on by default (medium effort). Pricing depends on prompt length: $0.10 input and $0.50 output per million tokens up to 100K, and $0.50 / $2.50 above that; cache reads cost $0.01 / $0.05, and Batch is 50% off. Anthropic says it costs about 75% less to run on average than Haiku 4.5 ($1 / $5). A new tokenizer counts the same text as about 30% more tokens. Knowledge cutoff is June 2026; retirement no sooner than Oct 7, 2027.

Availability

Claude API/Platform `claude-haiku-5-5`; Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Foundry; selectable in Claude.ai on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise, and in Claude Code
